hand-woven hemp linen. Because only a few can be made from the
same linen, each of these bags is truly distinctive and nearly one of a
kind. They are generously sized and finished with high quality
stitched leather.

bag is lined with high quality cotton ticking. For your convenience, a
zippered pocket as well as two slip pockets on the inside will hold your

This durable linen fabric is between 80 and 130 years old and made
from flax and hemp, which were grown by European farmers who
wove the material by hand. The women weavers of former times spent
their evenings weaving this amazing linen, often working only by

linen German grain sack, which I bought in my home country
Germany. The printing on the sack is original. These German grain
sacks are very rare, and few survived the wars.

have them stenciled with their name in order to identify their sacks
when they took them to the mill. They also often inscribed the name of
the farm and the date it was established or taken over by a new owner.
The earliest sacks were hand painted. Around 1890 stencilling became
the more common mode of imprinting the sacks.
The grain sacks are not in perfect condition when I receive them. Most
of them have quite a few patches and stains, and I will describe any
blemishes that I see. I always do my best to piece the fabric together to
